First Friday Photo Exhibition

My first First Friday! I’m excited to be showing new photographs from my series Patina: Gravel Racing in the Heartland at 19 Below in KCMO this Friday, June 2nd.  This show expands on the theme of some work I have shown before. More suffering, but also more scene setting. Introspective portraits snuck from brief moments of respite from bone-shaking roads still abound, but I also want you to see Rebecca Rusch’s swig of victory champagne and the general store in Malcom, Nebraska where you HAVE to stop for a lottery ticket (and probably a Coke). I want you to see just how daunting but simultaneously spectacular the rolling hills of Road Dd in Chase County are along with the race-hardened face of the late legend, Steve Tilford. I want you to see them all together, side by side. This sport is a complicated beast and it’s tough to explain the varied reasons why these people volunteer giddily, train feverishly, and suffer like hell just to say they did it. I’m not sure I’ve really cracked the case, but I think these photos help us mere mortals take a peek.

The opening reception is from 5:30 PM -9:00 PM. I hope you can stop in to take a look and chat. The photos will be up throughout the month of June.
